Marion County History
Marion County was named after a guerilla fighter and hero of the American Revolutionary War, Francis Marion, who was originally from South Carolilna. The county was formed in 1844, and changed borders several times in the 1800s. Many of the early settlers in the area were South Carolinians who has followed Francis Marion to the area.
